[ Bath ] Tea Time and The Pump Room

The Tea Room & The Pump Room – We didn’t plan to go to these two places. But we just happened to have found them. Bath is a quiet but busy hotspring town – Quiet when the tourists are gone and busy when they’re in. There are also many… shops around. You’re almost certain to find something you want to buy here.

Good morning Bath! The Christmas lights that decorate the streets have a different theme here.

We were just going to wait at some chain cafe. But they were all full. We were lucky and found this very cozy and homey cafe/tea room.

The windows of the Tea Time are decorated with cute little things.

Some are kinda random but cute!

They have a very colourful set of cupcakes on display.

The interior of half of the tea room. I love the wall papers and the interior decor! It looks a bit like the Victoria Garden Tea Room in Taipei (see my previous post here) But this feels more cozy.

Too bad we weren’t really that hungry at that time so we only ordered something to drink.

I love this cake stand and the cupcake colours!

The Tea Time is right outside of the Bath Spa Train Station. As you walk out of the train station, turn left and you should be able to see it across the street.

The theme of the Christmas light decoration here this here is chandelier. You’d see how they shine in my next post on Bath.

Another place to have a nice Bath afternoon tea is the Pump Room beside the famous Roman Bath Museum.

A cute lion decorated in the style of Chinese blue and white porcelin greeted us as we entered the Pump Room from the Roman Bath. This lion was placed here because of collaboration project with China related to it.

The Pump Room is regarded “the social heart of Bath for two centuries”. It is a neoclassical salon that has been the place for social events (eg. balls) since it was opened by the Duchess of York in 1795. It is also featured in several of Jane Austen’s novels as the place where people met. It was described as the place “to see and be seen”. Now this place is known as the Pump Room Restaurant where you can have breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

The fountain in the Pump Room, supposedly the fountain with hot mineral water drawn from the spring. It was believed that drinking this hot mineral water could cure illness during Victorian time so this place got really busy then.

The afternoon tea at the Pump Room is supposed to be pretty famous. This is the Traditional Pump Room Afternoon Tea for two. You can also order the one with Champagne. If you would really like to do some Champagne tasting, they also have a Champagne taster with 4 kinds of Champagne available for tasting.

We ordered Mango Green Tea, which was pretty good!

By the time we got out of the restaurant it was already around 4:30pm and it was getting dark. The Bath Abbey was closed… :(   But that meant we got some time to do some Christmas light viewing + shopping!

Just outside of the Pump Room there was shop that sells all kinds of interesting tea pots (and a lot of other strange things as well). But what’s so special about the tea pots i their shapes. Do you see a toilet?

There are also teapots in the shape of bathtubs!
