[祭 . 最後一個沒有核電運轉的福隆夏天]
The last summer in Fulong without the nuclear power plant.
Danger with Nuclear Power Plant: 另一個 “不願面對的真相”? Another “Inconvenient Truth”?
There has been arguements and objections to the construction of the nuclear power plant in this area (or should I say anywhere nuclear power plants are built). The nuclear power plant has been built for some time but the technical operations are not on track yet so the “opening” day has been postponed year after year. But they say, it’s due to…
be on track this year. This is considered disasterous to those, including fishermen, local residents and environmental organizations who have opposed to the operation for years. For one thing, the way the nuclear power plant works will affect the surrounding geographical landscape: the beach of the famous Fulong Ocean Park will be gone due to the altering of ocean current and the coral reefs and ocean creatures in the bay will bleach or simply die due to the high temperature water and substances that comes out from the underwater vent hole of the power plant.
Walking down the hill and seeing the Fulong beach and the river that we were “drifting” on.
Regarding the nuclear plant, I vaguely remember it from the days before we moved to Canada. When we were small, my parents would take us around the northern coast along the coastal highway. It has always been our favourite scenic drive. We often stopped by a beach or rocky shore where we could go and collect shells, hermit crabs or rocks. At one time, we met a man who collected fossils from the rocky shores. He told us about how he found so many fossils of extinct sea creatures, shells, and others. & he brought us to his dorm and showed us how he processed the fossils he collected from the beach to preserve them. He, as I remember clearly, said he works at the nuclear power plant.
The sky looks rather strange and mystical. 有點詭異…
Strange sky, like an ill omen. The uncertain future for the local residents?
We passed the local community development centre (which was… very petit). They sold some local jello made of sea weed (or “stone flower” from literal translation). We FLOCKED in there and each bought one (come in different flavours) to try. The passion fruit flavour and the lemon one were quite good.
