After the Brand Management seminar with the founder of ACER (computers/laptop) & the CEO of HTC & such a tight schedule for the day, we went to the Peony Japanese Restuarant in Xinyi District (牡丹園）for some stomach-filling food. The set menu style is some what like 三井 but I’d say food-wise, it’s more fushion-like. When we were there, some HK TV show was filming some food-tasting program over there. The restaurant certainly has some creative
ways of making “Japanese” food (in terms of material combination and presentation). But we figured we still like 三井 better. :p
Exterior of the restaurant. The large red lanterns really grabs your attention.
The interior of the restaurant is modern with tints of Chinese paintings.
We ordered a fixed price set menu at 1,500 NTD per person. Photo 1: The clay/ceramic plates, cups, etc. have the quite rustic feel. 2. 山藥, fish & something inside I can’t remember. 3. Squid sushi. 4. tempura.
Photo 4: Appetizer. 5: Sashimi dish – the patterns on the meat looks perfect. 6. Another type of fish that tastes more like crab meat, dipped with miso sauce.
The first photo of this entry was the second dish and the most well done dish of the whole set. It really came on as a surprise for us to see the “smokes” coming out of the “well” or bamboo bucket. The colors also look really nice. But the dishes afterthat are definitely less surprising and not too much innovative presentation.
