[ Innsbruck, ich muss di lassen ]

Not many people have heard of Innsbruck. I only know Innsbruck because 1) Swarovski is there and  2) in our Norton Anthology of Western Music (uni. musicology textbook) there is a 16th century German lied called “Innsbrck, ich muss di lassen”, which means “Innsbruck, I must leave you”. Innsbruck is a word that can be separated. “Bruck” or “Brücke” in German means…. (continue reading…)

—————–
…”bridge” and “Inn” is the river that flows through the city. So it basically means the bridge over the river Inn. The old town is right by the Alps with steep mountains in its background. It’s also a city that held the 1988 Winter Olympics.

The plaza on the main street in Innsbruck.
Innsbruck

Most of the stores here have these intricate and decorative store signs like the ones in Salzburg. See previous post:[ Salzburg ] Exchanging the Big Apple for Mozart’s Balls.
有點像在 Salzburg 街上看到的:  看之前的post:[ Salzburg ] Exchanging the Big Apple for Mozart’s Balls.

The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dahl). Built in the 1500s originally as a royal “box” for Emperor Maximillian I to watch tournaments in the square below.

These are fire-gilded copper tiles.

The main street in the old Innsbruck.
Innsbruck

Innsbruck
There’s a more modern face to Innsbruck as well.

We had our lunch/afternoon food at the outdoor Piano Bar Restaurant.
Piano Bar Restaurant.

Tomato & Basil with Morezella.

Although I don’t want to see/eat salmon for a LONG TIME… I must still admit this looks pretty good.

The River Inn that flows through the city of Innsbruck.
Inn.

Toy-like houses by the river bank.
Imperial Palace – a palace for the Hapsburg royal family. No photos in there but not a lot to look at anyway. Wouldn’t recommend it if you’ve been to the ones in Vienna or Munich.
Interior of Cathedral St. James. Rebuilt in the 1700s in the Baroque style.
Lavish organ ornamentation.

This cathedral actually looks quite similar to one we saw in Prague: see previous post: The Religious Side of Prague
Houses in the courtyard outside of the cathedral.
It was a peaceful afternoon in a quiet courtyard. You can almost feel spring.

On the way back to Munich. The tour bus took a different route up the mountain. & There were several points like the one shown in the photo above. This is a steep mountain road with lots of emergency exits like this. If you loose your brake going downhill during snowy season, you’re not suppose to panic and should steer your car to one of these emergency exits.
