Singaprua, the “lion city” of the 14th century, is a rather confusing city. I was not sure whether I should speak English or Chinese because the city is filled with people of different ethnicities and spoke different … ( continue reading...)
The lobby of the hotel is quite grandioso. The people going in and out of the area also looked very well dressed. It makes one feels a bit out of place with something lesser. The hotel is located in a pretty nice area and lots of tall office and hotel buildings, as well as fancy cars.
Entrance to our breakfast room in the hotel lobby.
My room on the 18th floor. The room was quite spacious and had a nice view.
A comfy couch to rest at the end of the day. Complimentary fruits and chocolate.
The view from my room during day time.
View from my room at night.
The hotel is located in a pretty convenient area with the MRT station (Promenade Station) and a few shopping malls and lots of restaurants nearby.
The Milleniai Walk beside our hotel is a shopping mall with ceiling designed like colourful pyramids.
The roads are a bit confusing and I must say the road signs are not so easy to understand. So I ended up at the area near the waterfront. The building with strange shape is the Esplande Theatres on the Bay.
I had some free time in the afternoon so I went to see the City Hall area. This is the St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Built in the 1862 by the prisoners of war from India with chalk, shells, sugar and egg white.
This colourful building also around that area is the MICA building. MICA stands for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
This used to be a police office. The building itself was completed in 1934.
It was mentioned somewhere that there’s a total of 911 windows here.
Passed by other pretty ornate buildings around that area.
For the first night in Singapore, we went to an Italian restaurant called Forlino near the Fullerton Hotel.
Thanks to Dr. K for the special arrangement. We got a seat by the window with a nice view of the harbour.
The portion is not big. The presentation is quite nice.

DSLR is a must for good evening photo shots.
We decided to walk back to the hotel after dinner. Actually it wasn’t really far; it was quite walkable, especially when the weather was pretty nice. We just had to cross a bridge and some malls basically. The white statue here is the famous Merlion.
This is the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay.
The famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel was not too far as well. More on this in a later post.
This is the view of the place where we dined after we crossed the bridge. At that time, I felt the city was like a huge amusement park. Lots of lights and modern buildings at night. Things all look pretty new and fresh. It’s easy to get from place to place (often walkable as well). & There are places in the city that have pretty unique characters to them (you’ll see in my next post).
