Not to miss out on the Olympics opportunity, we managed to see a day packed with world-top tennis players at the Wimbledon centre court. Wimbledon itself is an attraction because of its rich history. So we were very lucky to…
have gotten such awesome opportunity to see Wimbledon live for the first time.
Off to Wimbledon for the Olympics! The place is actually a bit of walk from the tube station.
Big thanks to N. for getting the centre court tickets!! Got to see a lot of top players in one day like a Tennis cram course! lol
Walking past a few small courts outside of the centre court building.
The first game of the day was at 12:00 and it was Female’s Singles with Venus Williams (US) vs. Aleksandra Wozniak (Canada).
After the first game, it was pouring rain so they had to “seal” the ceiling and prepare the court for the next game.
The second round of games was Men’s Singles with Andy Murray (UK) vs. Jarkko Nieminen (Finland).
Jarkko was pretty good and was running around like mad to try to get every shot. Too bad his match was against the world champion of this Olympics.
When a player challenges a call, there’s a playback of the shot on the big screen.
The third game was also a Men’s Singles with Andy Roddick (USA) vs. Novak Djokovic (Serbia).
Djokovic entering the court.
Andy Roddick seemed to have a tough day today. The whole audience is constantly yelling out “COME ON ANDY”… Well, but then the audience was like “COME ON VENUS, COME ON ANDY, COME ON ANDY, COME ON LAURA” throughout the whole time (depending on the competition).
But Djokovic was really good..
At one point, Andy was just staring at the score board…
The last game we watched was a Female Singles with Laura Robson (UK) vs. Maria Sharapova (Russia)
Sharapova makes a bit of a strange “sound” whenever she hits the ball… It was a bit strange initially.
It was a pretty tough game for the two and Laura Robson lost marginally to Sharapova. The crowd was getting a bit weary or tired in general (too intense maybe?!).
We didn’t watch the last game ’cause it was getting close to dinner time. On our way out, we passed by the score board with all the results and games today.
The Olympics mascot with the tennis player look. I must say.. I don’t really understand the aesthetic concept of the London Olympics mascot… It’s like a CCTV-watching-you mascot. I think the Vancouver Winter Olympics mascots were so much cuter and actually would make people want to buy their related products.
If you’re looking for some Olympics or Wimbledon souvenir, you can also check out their shop.
The tennis champions for the 2012 London Olympics are already out. It was a great experience to have seen so many top tennis players in one day!
